HISTORY OF ODE-OMI

ODE-OMI as one of the foundational communities of Ikale Land traced their genealogy to a blend of Edo and Yoruba influence, shaped by migration, intermarriage and adaptation, their lineage is deeply tied to Yoruba tradition and historical connection with the Benin Kingdom.

However, the sources of all crowns in Yoruba Land is Ile-Ife, Oduduwa magnanimously sent his Grandson-ORANMIYAN to lead the Edo people who were seriously in conflict among themselves (Ile-Ibunu-Ibini) as a result of the collapse of the “OGISO” dynasty (IGODOMIGODO). Though Edo people are not Yoruba but the traditional leadership as represented by the Oba of Benin is an extension of the lineage of Oduduwa of Ile-Ife

ORANMIYAN who reigned as Oba of Benin about 11:70AD - 12:00AD beget “EWEKA” (OWOMIKAWON) who reigned after his father at about 12:00AD – 1235AD. The system of succession to the throne is purely primogeniture from father to the son (First Son). The late Oba Esegie who reigned between about 15:04 – 1550 as the seventh (17th) Oba of Benin beget Abodi of Ikale and Odogbo of Omi. The duo migrated across the OHA RIVER  through “EJIDE” to open up new kingdom called Ikale.

Abodi came first with his own crown and Odogbo joined thereafter with his own crown too before other migration to form the Sub-nation known as Ikale Land. This account for the reason while the two monarchs were the only crown beaded Obas of Ikale Land between 15th century and 1976.

A new chapter of Ikale history was birthed in 1976 when the First Governor of Ondo State Wing Commander Inter David Ikpeme in his own wisdom upgraded all other communities heads known as Olojas to crown wearing Obas. Ikale is now having over 20 kingdoms     

THE ROYAL LINEAGE - THE 22 ODOGBOS OF OMI KINGDOM 

1. OBA ODOGBO AMESE - 15 CENTURY

Was a prince of Benin Kingdom who was born with powerful royal and spirtual etiquettes in his hands with signs and wonders in the palace. He was moved out with his mother and some chiefs to "IGO" his mother's community. He was pronounced an Oba as soon as he got to "IGO" because two kings can not be in thesame palace. A metal crowned as "Ade Maka" and a cloth known as "Ewu Nene"  was used to decorate him and named him Amese and Ajiboye

Omi Kingdom settled in six different places of settlement, Oba  Akinyelure was crowned as a king in IGO-OMI but later moved and took all natives of Omi  Kingdom to what we known as Ode-Omi today. The Ode-Omi today was now the seventh settlement
