ODE-OMI— A vibrant wave of rich Ikale heritage, sacred rites, and community jubilation swept through the ancient coastal town of Ode-Omi on August 11 and 12, 2026, as residents, indigenes in the diaspora, and traditional enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the annual Erunfan Festival.

The two-day celebration served as a monumental display of communal unity, ancestral veneration, and cultural renewal.

Day 1 (August 11): Ancestral Invocations and Opening Rites

The festivities kicked off early on August 11 with sacred morning rituals performed by the traditional custodians and high priests of Ode-Omi. Pouring libations and offering traditional prayers, elders sought peace, abundant harvests, and prosperity for the kingdom and its people in the coming year.

By afternoon, the town erupted into color and sound as youth groups, family lineages, and cultural troupes paraded through the major streets. The rhythm of traditional drums echoed across the coastal landscape, accompanied by chants praising the founding fathers and protectors of the land.

Day 2 (August 12): Grand Procession and Cultural Displays

The celebration reached its climax on August 12, as the entire community gathered at the central arena near the royal palace. Dressed in magnificent ceremonial attire, titled chiefs and community leaders took their seats to welcome the royal father, dignitaries, and visiting guests.

The day featured captivating cultural performances andtraditional dance displays that thrilled spectators. A key highlight was the symbolic blessing of the land, where community leaders emphasized the importance of preserving Ode-Omi’s unique heritage while fostering economic and infrastructure growth across Ikale Land.

A Message of Peace and Unity

Speaking during the grand finale, traditional leaders commended the peaceful conduct of the youth and praised the sons and daughters of Ode-Omi for traveling from far and wide to honor their roots.

The 2026 Erunfan Festival concluded on a high note with grand feasting, musical entertainment, and exchange of goodwill, leaving the people of Ode-Omi with renewed pride in their identity and optimism for the future.

YOUNG TALENT (TOLU) CAPTIVATES CROWD WITH MEMORABLE OLD-MAN SING-PRAISE PERFORMANCE AT 2026 ERUNFAN FESTIVAL

Among the vibrant cultural displays and rich traditional rites of the 2026 Erunfan Festival, one extraordinary performance stole the spotlight and left an indelible mark on attendees: a breathtaking act by a young daughter of the soil, Tolu.

Stepping onto the stage transformed as an elderly male praise-singer (Akewi), young Tolu delivered a mesmerizing performance that effortlessly blended deep Ikale (Ode-Omi) poetic chants, ancestral lineage praises (Oriki), and masterclass theatrical portrayal.

Dressed in traditional attire styled after seasoned village elders, Tolu adopted the gait, voice inflections, and stage presence of an old master bard. Her deep knowledge of Ode-Omi's historical roots, coupled with her flawless delivery of intricate praise poetry honoring the land, its chiefs, and ancestors, drew loud cheers, standing ovations, and spontaneous showers of praise and gifts from impressed elders and royal dignitaries.

Her performance proved to be one of the undeniable highlights of the two-day festival on August 11 and 12, infusing fresh excitement and youthful energy into the ancient traditions.

Speaking after the performance, proud community members praised Tolu as a shining example of the talent emerging from Ode-Omi, celebrating her role in keeping the town's cultural legacy alive for the next generation. Her standout act not only elevated the atmosphere of the 2026 Erunfan Festival but also served as a proud reminder of the rich artistic heritage blossoming within the community.

NEW CHIEFTAINCY TITLE CONFERMENT CEREMONY IN ODE OMI

COMMUNITY REJOICES AS ODE OMI HONORS DISTINGUISHED SONS WITH MAJOR CHIEFTAINCY TITLES

ODE OMI — Festive atmosphere, traditional drumming, and vibrant cultural displays filled the air in Ode Omi as the community gathered in large numbers to witness the historic conferment of prominent chieftaincy titles upon two distinguished individuals: 

1. Chief Akintade Abayomi

2. Chief Akin Obitomide.

The colorful ceremony, held at the royal palace, brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, dignitaries, and locals from across Omi Kingdom and neighboring towns. The event marked a memorable milestone in the kingdom’s rich cultural heritage.

During the rites, Mr. Akintade Abayomi was officially installed as the Chief Lijofi of Omi Kingdom, while Mr. Akin Obitomide was conferred with the historic title of Chief Olowojoyemeji of Omi Kingdom.

The traditional rites, performed in accordance with the ancient customs of Ode Omi, symbolized the trust, honor, and responsibility bestowed upon both men by the king and the council of chiefs. The newly installed chiefs were charged with upholding the values of the kingdom, fostering peace, and contributing significantly to the social and economic development of the land.

Residents and well-wishers turned out in grand style, dressed in exquisite traditional attire, dancing and cheering as the new chiefs were presented to the public. Jubilant songs resounded through the streets of Ode Omi, reflecting the deep sense of pride and unity among the people.

In their appreciation remarks, both Chief Lijofi and Chief Olowojoyemeji expressed profound gratitude to the royal father, the council of chiefs, and the entire Omi Kingdom for the honor. They reaffirmed their commitment to the progress, unity, and welfare of the community.
